Had about a 7 or 8lbs. pike on, and right at the boat on Sunday. I could see that he had the lure pretty deep in his mouth and i was going to have a bit of tough time getting it out without causing too much damage to the fish. I just grabbed the leader to try and get the hook out and he gave me a head shake and he was gone with my lure still deep in his throat. I looked at he leader and found the clevis had actually broke and come apart.

Never felt bad for a fish before but this poor pike is likely gonna die because he's not going to be able eat with my len thompson wedged in his mouth.

Can't remember what kind of leaders they were anymore, maybe red wolf or something but I'm sure they were at least 10# leaders. Always thought "a leader is a leader" sort of thing. Anyway they're all in the garbage now and bought some Danielson leaders this time.

Lesson Learnt

X2

And like Wayne I tie mine with fluorocarbon leader material now, though there's nothing wrong with wire leaders either...it's more of a preference thing.

You will find the quality of the Mustad leaders pretty good, the best IMO are the titanium ones made by Finn Tastic. Very small diameter, they dont twist and have good swivels and clips. The Fishin Hole and WSS both carry them.
