Decent Day At The RDR.

Hatches: Golden Stones,PMD's.no hoppers...
Conditions:Partly Cloudy Sky, Water was Fishable in someplaces and other places crystal clear.

Flies/Techque:Bright Flies in orange,white,yellow/stimmies,pencil bugs size 12.,daves hopper. Constently stripping it in on i cast it down stream.
the mooneye takes it on the strip and the goldeye on the swing.

after 4 hours of stocking browns with only one spotted and spooked after a guy through a stick in the water for his dog i found a realy sick spot for Monster mooneye.
first cast a monster mooneye and soo on. then they stopped biteing and its all small guys. i thought it was a goldeye untill i checked out my pics. only one goldeye and about 75 mooneye.
i caught a glimpse of a real salmonfly alive in a cobweb and rescued it.
lots of stoneshucks around i seen well over 100 of them. the most shucks were in the middle of the river beside the bridge.
anyway had a good time and cant belive i only caught one goldeye. lots of junk in the river including a motor beer cans, smokes you name it.
Never seen any whitefish or suckers either. Tons of stuff rising at the new honey hole.

Some guy on a tube said its funner when you get a bunch of chicks and float down...goto try it tommrow!

My pics will be up when photobucket it dont uploading it.

Its Low in the city section and gets shallower the father out you walk(kinda weird). If you want you can come and fish with me and get some mooneye/goldeye on the fly

I'd be inclined to as I've been meaning to hit Mooneye and Goldeye on the fly and I appreciate the offer but I'm one river to the North and booked solid until school starts back up. :sign0161:

it certainly is a adult stonefly...im no bug expert but i was taught on the Crow that a salmon fly had a bright orange belly. There is many species of stoneflys.
I stopped fishing the Crow as it became too too crowded and i found much better waters to fish....so i havent seen a orange bellied Salmon fly in a long time. Funny i still tie a big orange salmon fly with rubber legs and it works to imitate all the species.
Like i said im no bug expert, thats just what i was taught in my younger days......way way before you were born

Again...great pics young man....you prove everyday you are a very good fisherman

Please correct me if I am wrong, but is the golden stonefly hatch a little late on Red Deer River this year.?

As for the Salmonfly hatch. Is that usually around the end of June on the Red Deer River?

If the hatches are late, that means more good things to crawl and emerge.:sHa_shakeshout:

oh its more then then a little late. the thing is the day before or ealer that morning must have been one hell of a hatch there was shucks everywhere if you looked on the bank and lots on the bridges. more and more the farther you went towards the middle.

Was on the sheep this evening and saw those same nymph husks. A couple days old mind you, and no fresh adults to be seen.
