well, here goes nothing.... I got drawn for 108 mule deer buck!!! (finally)... so I have permission on some land holding muleys but apparently so does everybody else that hunts in 108 for muleys... I have been out driving around looking for a spot that is less pressured that also holds mule deer (I know i'm dreaming the hunters dream). so my question is/are... does this dream property still exist in 108 with the increased pressure as of recent years?

I was at Shanks lake area yesterday having a look. saw very little but not surprised seeing as it was the hottest part of the day. Is this area worth a closer look?

The Twin River grazing lease looks intriguing but am I wrong in assuming that this would be a popular/busy spot seeing as access is relatively easy, also does the same go for the Ross Lake community pasture? They both seem to be good possibilities. Does the foot access only rule deter many hunters on these leases? I am willing to walk a long way to get to where the deer are..

I am not looking for specific names or locations but a general yay or nay on some of these areas would be helpful and greatly appreciated and of course any suggestions for places I should check out would be welcome.

Just to put it out there I was 0 for 3 on door knocking yesterday (nobody home) I have no issues heading up a drive way and knocking on doors, I am respectful and always take my hat off when someone comes to the door, kill em with kindness no matter how I am treated. I am saying this so you guys dont think I am sitting on my arse looking for handouts. i figure this is all part of doing my homework to fill a tag that is 5 years in the making/waiting and I want to make sure I cover all my bases. This forum is a wealth of information and I think that to not take advantage of it would be foolish.

one last thing... why do those awesome Mcintyre bucks have to be so close to the fence by the road?? I almost hit the ditch yesterday as I muttered a 12 letter MF bomb when I saw a nice 180 class 4X4 just off the road. Also saw a great pronghorn buck with 5 does, no fawns that I could see. sorry for even mentioning these 2 sightings as I have no pics!!

5 work shifts starting tomorrow then its 5 days off for more scouting!!

Thanks to everyone that reads this short story. I appreciate any replies and info that you all are willing to share.

THANKS!!

M

I have hunted 108 often over the years, including quite a few times on the Twin Rivers Grazing reserve. There are deer on the property, but I have never seen a decent buck on it. I've never seen another hunter either other than our own party. A lot of it is pretty barren, so I don't think it's really prime mulie country. I'm not sure who's managing it this year, but the last manager we spoke with was kind of a grumpy guy. Be sure to get permission if you go. It seems like the quality of big bucks has gone down quite a bit over the last few years we've been in 108, although I'm sure there's still some big ones left.

Has anyone hunted the Sandstone Ranch property west of Del Bonita? We did see a few bucks on it, but didn't have permission to be on it.
