Anyone try making fruit leather with Saskatoons?
I have tons of saskatoons, rhubarb and a decent crop of raspberries.
Mom made a couple pies with the 3 fruits and the filling was great.

I'm considering using my dehydrator. Wondering if I need to cook the berries first or just run them thru the blender. They are BIG tame berries about the size of blueberries.

Thx

Saskatoons can easily be made into fruit leather to enjoy in the winter months. This can be done the natural way by drying under the sun, although this year it looks like you will need a dehydrator!

Saskatoon Fruit Leather

Ingredients:

A bowl of freshly picked saskatoon berries

Sweetener (sugar or honey) to taste

Wash the berries. Place in a pot on low heat. Cook until the berries are soft. Depending on what final texture you desire, mash or puree the berries. Add some water for a fine thin leather (trial and error). Add your sweetener to taste. Spread on dehydrator sheets and dehydrate until done.

A flavourful, all natural treat that will keep all winter in your fridge!
