The title describes it all. I was fishing last week in front of my grandpa's house in Norglenwold when he attacked my jig head tipped with a minnow half. The funny thing is that I was in the paddle boat when it all happened and he was pulling me everywhere. If you saw the sylvan lake news paper I was in it with my fish. The cool part was that the pike was very colorful with bright red spots and fins. Take a look at the pics! I will upload a few more later.

Great catch!

When I was a teen I'd spend days cruisin my grandpa's lake in his paddle boat.

Never caught a beast like that though!!

And to Bee,,,, I'm not sure paddle boating and cruising should be mentioned in the same breath. Maybe shplonking or flupping but definitely not cruising.

That is a great fish congratulations. When a northern pikes fins turn bright orange to red that is a sign of a super healthy fish. That is an awesome specimen.

Very nice fish man :)

Though personally I wouldn't bother keeping anything much over 10lbs for eating. Not a moral issue, but rather a taste issue - no hate for keepin' that one! :)

Nice fish, would have tossed it back in the lake to carry on the genitc cycle. One fish but 100,000 took out of the circle of life. If everyone were to keep fish like that it wouldn't take long to kill the lake.

Just my opinion, but very unethical.

You can't state a "just an opinion" and then close with saying it's "very unethical",, it should read, "it's unethical in my opinion" but the way you wrote it, was as if it is an empirical ethical foundation that was peverted by an illicit act. When in truth it was his right under the current Alberta fishing regs.

When is eating a lawfully caught fish unethical?

nice fish man! I would've kept it too. And sent overdrawn the guts.

I was under the impression that fish from Sylvan aren't the greatest eats? Friend owns a cabin on there, said water is dirty? I dunno, maybe she's crazy.

Ok, There is nothing wrong with the taste of the fish at sylvan lake. The water is just as good as any other lake. As for overdrawn, -you don't have to say it's very unethical just because you don't like eating fish and you always put them back. I'm a huge sportsmen; ask anyone in norlgenwold I am out there in my little blue paddle boat 24/7 whenever I come to the lake. I don't keep the fish that are just over legal size because I like to give them a chance at life! haha But when I catch a big bertha like that I feel like they have had there shot at life and the time is up because I do like the taste of them and it is perfectly legal. There is no law saying you have to be ethical. Plus I got a hungry bunch of little cousins back at home that love fish. We finished that one up in like 3 days lol. Thanks for all the nice posts from everyone.

Beauty! I'm sure that if you piloted that inflatable dolphin behind you out on the lake & landed a 20lber from it, even overdrawn would have to consider it ethical lol. Nice fish man :)

doesnt matter on the size, they all lay about the same number of eggs, and are you saying that big fish genes dont develop until the fish is big? a 1 inch fry has the same genes as a 40 pound fish, give the guy a break. and everyone else. Just my opinion of course
