honda 10 hp motor help

I have this outboard motor that starts and runs good but I have notice when the cover is on the motor dies but when the cover is off it runs good. Can someone have an advice on this. It sucks when you're in the moddle of the lake the motor dies on you...

Sounds like an exhaust leak and chokes the motor out. Had the same issue with another brand.

check your exaust. if you do find a leak you can buy cheap patch kits at places like candian tire, part source.

Remembered it was a 9.9 Johnson. I couldn't find the exhaust leak in mine dispite trying. They need fresh air. I vented the cowling (it was an old motor) and covered it with a fine screen. Worked fine after that.
