Yup...thats how my father showed me to do it when I was a wee lad.....so now I just don't keep fish cause then I don't have to clean them at all :)

Once you get the feel for it , that is a great way to do it....the kicker is to "feel" the bones with the blade and to not be too firm or you will cut them in two.

I would say best method would be #1 after seeing that. I used to try the 2nd one but quickly gave up as it is a little tricky, time consuming and is quite wasteful especially on smaller pike. Learning how to eat them with the bones still in is easy unless you are cooking for a bunch of kids, all you have to do is use your fork to cut a line along the top part of fillet about half way down, pull that meat away and it will expose all the bones, remove the bones and enjoy knowing you are getting all the meat.

I think I tried the 1st method but had trouble following the bones. Might have to give it a try again though as it is relatively quick and doesn't waste a lot of meat.
