A couple buddies and i were out last weekend fishing for some sturgeon( no we didnt catch any.) As we were sitting there on shore, i saw at least 6 of them jump up out of the water within a period of a half hour or so. Why do they jump like that? Is it just for fun, or is there an actual reason? Never thought i would see a bottom feeder jump like that... without actually being hooked.

They breach the water inorder to clean the dirtand shot out of their gills. I was just on the Fraser last week and that is what Vic the owner of STS told me. He is pretty knowledgable when it comes to sturgeon.
