I've wanted to get up to Barnaby Ridge for a long time now, and finally made it up last weekend. Goal... to catch my first golden trout. Here is the first lake, where I didn't try fishing.

I had been told that the best lake to fish is the second lake. I wanted to bring my belly boat up, but was worried about the hike. I didn't bother with the belly boat, but I did bring waders up, which turned out to be a good idea.

My interest piqued when I had a fish on after my 3rd cast, but I didn't land it. It took a while, but eventually I managed to land 3 golden trout. Wow, they have so much color on them! I lost a few, and just as I seemed to have the dry fly action dialed in, the wind became brutal and I decided to leave. I was able to knock to things off my bucket list... getting up to Barnaby Ridge, and catching a golden trout. Good trip!

I forgot my net at my truck, so forgive me for the the fish handling.... the fish were on the shoreline in as much water as possible. I wish I could have gotten a few better shots, because their beauty is second to none.

The long trail home...

Nice photos! The wind couldn't have been that bad, I didn't see one foot whitecaps on the lake like we saw a month ago when we did the hike up there.

I had some whitecaps too, although maybe not 1'. How did you make out up there? Were you fishing, or just hiking? There was only one other guy fishing while I was up, but well over a dozen people just hiking.

Amazing pictures! Well done! Those are 2 things I want to do in the near future! Next summer I'm determined to hike up there and catch my first Golden Trout! Those fish are absolutely beautiful, aren't they?

Nice fish and pics. I can't wait to get a golden off my list. Just wondering, how long is the hike up there and is the trailhead easy to find? Thanx

It took me about 1 hour and 45 minutes to get there, about 5 kms or so. The trailhead it pretty easy to find actually, but it is a fairly tough hike.

Your hike looks a lot more challenging than mine did!

It was difficult, but very fun. You look like you had a great time too, I'll have to check out some our southern Golden lakes sometime.
