I am getting a fish finder for my birthday and want to spend $350 max. I never had one before and dont really know what to look for. I know that I want one with the largest angle because I usually fish in shallower lakes. I like the hummingbirds because you can purchase a different transducer for ice fishing, but only on the portable models.

So with all that, I was thinking about getting the Hummingbird 570 portable for $280 at wholesale sports. Is this a decent model? or should I get something else? thanks

IMO Get a colour fishfinder for sure. The 570 is ok but the B&w screens are hard to see in full sun.

Look at the Lowrance X67 if you can find one or the new Garmin 300c. If you can spare a few bucks extra, take a good look at the Humminbird 385Ci with GPS at just over $400.

I have been saving my dollars for the bird 385 CI. Looks like a killer unit, with gps, and SD slot to boot!
