Looking for some new tires for my '05 Arctic Cat 500 to finally replace the stock ones. Popped into Cooper's today and had a look at a few. Basically for my purposes, mainly hunting, I'm in mud and bog and up and down cut lines/blocks, etc... Durability is a MUST. Am looking, in the same price point approx., the ATP Mud Lite XL, the Maxxis Zilla, and STI MudTrax.

Any thoughts? Experience with any or all of them?

Thanks.

Of those choices, I would go with Zillas.

Mud Lites are garbage. Zillas or Mud Bugs is the way to go. 16,000 on my Mud Bugs and they still have tread, just slow leaks in 2 tires.

you couldnt pay me to have mudlites again. they wear out fast and pop easy. try the itp 589s or xtr's (i believe they are called) i own the 589s and they are a radial tire. a lil harder but take a hell of a beating and wear really well. i run them on my rhino and they have held up great.

x3... I had 3,600 km on my last set on my '06 Cat, on trails from muskeg to the mountains.. Never had an issue with traction or losing a bead.. I got rid of them as I took a 12" spike in a rear one and it had 2 plugs holding air in it.. There was still tread, but I opted for new, and replaced rims at the same time, as I had one front one that had a couple of good dings in it..

I went back to the mud lites and am lookin forward to another good run from them..

I also run those on my rhino. They are a very solid tire that also has a small rim guard built into the bead of the tire. They sure chew through the muck!!!! I did put a mud clutch kit on my rhino in order to get the lower end torque to spin them in the mud a little easier, as the 27" tires I put on are a little heavier than the other 27" tires in the same class.

From a person who puts more than 5000K a year on his Grizzly.

ITP Mudlites are not worth the money. Wear out too fast, and vibrate like hell, and are prone to flats.

I had Maxxis Mud Bugs on before these POS tires, and when there ITP's are done, The Mud Bugs will be going back on.

ITP mud lites are junk, they were on my bike when I bought it and they have let me down since day one, total garbage.

I have ran a couple sets of Mudbugs and was happy with them. Zillas are goo and wear as good as Mudbugs. They are just a little heavier.
But if you are going to spend the money look at the Mudlite XTRs. Not the regular Mudlites but the XTRs. They are my new favorite atv AP atv tire.

I have had mud bugs as well for about the last ten years and loved having them along for the ride. They go through anything from old clear cuts (sharp stumps) to swamp to rock to hard packed trails and don't miss a beat. They vibrate a bit on hard pack but it old helps to massage your muscles. Lol. I switched over to the Interco Swamp Lites this summer and have been out a few times with them. They are a great mud slinging tire. Hopefully the prove to be as reliable ad the mud bugs. Fingers crossed.

Swamp Lites get my vote. I have had a set since 2005...love them. Smooth riding b/c of centre lugs. Mud Bugs would be next. IMO why go with mudzillas or similar...way too heavy and if riding some hardpacked trails (cutlines) be very rough ride and wear out quickly and maybe some chassis components.

I have the Mudlight XTR's on my 700 and I am happy with them. Not a single flat or leak in the 4 years i've had them. Lot's of tread left. They are a radial tire. I have a few friends that got them after I did and they think they are a good tire as well. Blackfoot in Calgary had a deal on them for $100 a tire.

early tests on the swamp lites indicate they are one of the best atv tires out there and sales support the same conclusion. if your running gravel, a harder compound tire might be required.

Yup, Swamp Lites are made of a soft rubber and you will find they wear faster than other harder tires.
