I'm putting together a 243 for longish range Coyotes based around a Remington 700. When I went to mount the scope bases/rings I noticed that the rear bridge is low. Not uncommon. But also not good when trying to utilize a 1" tubed scope for elevation correction out past 700 yds. So I decided to bed the rear base to get everything in correct alignment.

When I get a low one like that I use washers to shim to the correct height, then bed them like that Chuck.
Seems to work well, and gives a bit of support to the whole thing.

That's just a mixture of wax and the rubbing alcohol I used to clean away the excess bedding. The flash really grabs hold of it.

I'll clean up the edges and bedding compound and voila. Custom bases.:)

Hey Chuck, in the first pic it looks like threaded posts iin the receiver. Are they just the plugs screw out most of the way, or something else? Details please.

No, I cut the heads off of long base screws. If you do that make sure that you fill the threads with clay or way to prevent mechanical lockup.
