Here's the scoop, I am planning on fishing police lake this Saturday but they are calling for 50+mm of rain between now and Then. How off color will the water be? Am I wasting my time trying to fish this soon after a huge rainfall?

When a rain kicks in and 50mm is a ton of rain, and should you choose to go, you can spot the turbid water, e.g., a stream is making a chocolate edge/stream into some clearer water,, cast onto that edge, fish are tuned into wash-up and wash-out, it's a smorgasboard for them,, bugs, worms, minnows going for grub and so forth. Fish will also prey closer to shore,, but 50mm is a good dump of rain should you choose to take the mission. check the wind too it's blustering down in Calgary. Be safe.

My Bad, the water clarity could be murky just pick your lure, I personally like the brackish water.

I find on some trout lakes, after a good rain the fishing is amazing, trolling a big leech pattern, the bigguns just can't resist, its almost as if the rain stirs up the bottom and all the worms and bugs and other goodies get floating about and it turns the feed on.

that being said, catching walleye on a river after a good rain is the exact opposite.

my 2 cents.

Police is never a waste of time, always some good fish to be caught on the fly. Even with the rain the water clarity shouldn't be bad.
