I went out to the range today to try out my new Ruger GP-100, and took three of my girls along (the 4th turned 18 today and was spending my money in Edmonton with my wife!)....but anyway, my 9 yr old shot pistol for the first time today, she started with my Sig Mosquito, then shot a mag with the Sig P226 in 9mm (her giggling makes that video!), and then she shot some .38 specials from the Ruger. My 14 yr old is my 'natural' shooter. She also shot the Mosquito, the 9mm, but she wasn't to be trifled with on the .357, and shot the magnum loads! Video of them shooting the Ruger attached, I haven't uploaded the 9mm yet (very slow right now), but may post later. My 16 yr old enjoyed the Mosquito the most, the 9mm not so much, .38 was OK, but she did not like the magnum loads at all. I, on the other hand, had a complete blast with the .357, that bad boy is accurate! Put 3 rounds touching in an 'aliens' forehead at 7m, while still getting to know the gun. I like! very cool, I have a little girl due this month, cant wait to take her fishing and shooting some day, And if she picks up from her mother, she'll be better on the clays than me, if she wants. And my little guy he already likes fishing, and shooting stuff.

THANKS! That was great to watch. I have my restricted but haven't put it to good use yet. I did take the kids (9, 10, and 12 yrs old) out to shoot the .22 rifle for the first time and it was a hit...they now want to try handguns (as do I). That was really inspiring to see how the kids handle some serious calibers.

My kids have been shooting archery and firearms with me since they were all 5 or 6. It's no mystery to them, and they aren't intimidated, and they know how to be safe. Now if I could just get them to clean up after shooting, while I watched and had a beer, it would be perfect!:)

Seriously though, do train them young, but not beyond what they should shoot. My kids all started with the .22, many hundreds of rounds, before they ever got to my 12g, or pistols, or 7mm08. They still haven't shot my .300 WM because I don't want them to develop a flinch, or a scar. All in good time, but train them well!

great advice. I started with them on the air pistol, now the .22 marlin 60. I am interested in a .22 beretta neos pistol and that would be sufficient. I agree with you that it would be unwise to give them too much gun when they are getting started. Your kids are an inspiration and encouraging me to sign up at the range this winter.

I like it, a great fun plinker, but it can be a bit fussy about what you feed it, it's not like my 226 for digesting anything and everything.....
