well i just sighted my new Ruger sr 22 in.

i zeroed it in at 25 yards and it shoots perfect at that range. but at 10 yards its shoots 1 inch low and at 50 yards it shoots half a inch low. anybody know why it is doing this?

Couple things come to mind....trajectory... or shooter... or rest... or scope... or parallax....

Off hand I'd say...the round is still climbing at 10 yards and starting to drop by 50.

Don't know what the MinPBR and MaxPBR is for a 22 but if anyone does...that should confirm or deny it.

Read this. At 10 yards the bullets path is below the line of sight, dead on at 25, and below again at 50.

Thanks guys I guess I should have explained that better.

Sights are offset from the barrel.

This means that when we sight in...the barrel is actually slightly elevated at the muzzle..relative to the sight so that the bullet will strike the point of aim.

There are two points along the bullets arc where it will strike at the same height above the ground if the point of aim is not changed. These points are called the Max and Min Point blank ranges.

Here are tables that might help.

http://www.chuckhawks.com/rifle_trajectory_table.htm

http://www.chuckhawks.com/small_game_rifles.htm

For most center fires these are somewhere around 25-30 meters and 200-300 meters. That is why so many guys shoot first at 25 or 30 meters for a 200 meter to 300 meter sight-in.

Now...having looked at the table....what ammo are you using?

Hi velocity .22 Long Rifle ammo...should be zero for 25 yards and MPBR at about 75.

Unless I just need to get some sleep because I read this wrong...

"The trajectory of the .22 LR cartridge is such that its maximum point blank range (MPBR) +/- 1 inch is about 85 yards. Zero a scoped rifle using one of these high velocity HP loads at 25 yards and the bullet passes through the line of sight for the second time at about 75 yards. The mid-range rise of a .22 so sighted is about 1 inch."

I found with my SR22 I had to use super tall rings to get a good sight picture this doesn't help any.The best way to find a trajectory is to shoot your gun.I find published velocity is usually generous which throws off any charts.Good Luck WK.
