i want to upgrade the scope on my 7mm and i was wondering if i can throw my current 4x40mm scope on my .22. The only reason i ask is because they market center fire and rimfire scopes differently.

If your CF scope has an adjustable objective that can be cranked down to 20M ..you should have no problem. However, if the scope does not have adjustment for parallax, it has probabaly been set for 100 to 150 yds (depending on brand)...which, when used at distances under 50M will not give the best results. Take a look through your scope at 25M to see if it is in focus and then change your eye position very slightly from side to side....and if the crosshairs move on the target..you have a parallax problem.

The above is true but I have done it and see many 22's with big gun scopes on them. Leupold 22 scopes are set for 75yds and IIRC the rifle ones are 150yds. I have never had an issue popping chickens with a CF rifle scope on a 22. They are a better option than those tiny wallyworld 22 scopes.

x2. I use a 6-24x56 objective Zeiss Diavari on a rimfire which works just fine. Parallax is adjustable down to 50m. Focus has a good range too.

The nice thing about it is that when you become familiar with the one same scope on all rifles, you don't have to adapt between visual fields/reticles or quality of view. 100 meters looks exactly the same whether on a 10/22 or a 408 Cheytac.

All these rimfires have been shot at 20 yards and 200 yards.:)

I don't own a .22 that doesn't have a rifle scope on it.......

I thought that it was standard practice to take packaged scopes off of rifles to put on rimfires. :)

Really smart move. Way better optics and you can reach out further. Just have to buy the one inch rings to fit your gun. My Ruger 10/22 wears a 6x62 Weatherby scope. :D

they market them differently because a rimfire scope if placed on a center fire rifle, will most likely get damaged internally since the internals of the scope are not built to take the recoil of a center fire rifle. but when going from a center rifle scope onto a rim fire theres no problem since it was built to take the abuse of a center fire rifle. so your good to go.

thanks for the advise, the scope doesnt have an adjustable parallax, its an older bushnell banner 4x that my grandfather gave me, but i'm going to give it a try anyway. its a little blurry at 10m but no issues at 25m. should be great come gofer season next year, now i just need to make friends with a farmer around edmonton.

Cat i think you would have to mount the Huble telescope on that to get any more magnification.

A japanese Bushnell Banner 6x18-40 on my .22, with parallax adjust to a bit less than 25yds.

The target turrets are sweet: You wanna hit something at 200yds, dial the right number and, other than adjusting for the slight day-to-day differences in trajectory, you are there.

I love those old RTB ( return to battery ) scopes!
They return to zero, and you can shoot them on everything from a .22 to a 458 Win mag if you wish !:sHa_shakeshout:
The top one is a 50's Vintage field testing scope that was used by C.I.Ll for ballistics testing.
it's a 15X Lyman Super targetspot.
The lower on is form the 70's and is a 20X Unertl Programmer.
I have another as well and all are super accurate.....
