Hit the lower WildHay yesterday as I was getting my last kick at the can for east slopes river fishing.
Found a sweet pool on the lower section just stacked and packed with fish. Literally hundreds of grayling and white fish.

Started out with some small beadheads under an indicator and got into some small whites. I noticed the bigger grayling were holding in the deeper water at the head of the pool. The odd one would rise so I switched to a foam hopper and picked a few off.

They got a little more picky later in the afternoon and I had to down size to #16-18 black humpies and did well on those as well. There were some sweet sized Bulls cruising around but they just weren't interested in what I had to offer. From the amount of fish hanging around the pool I don't think they were too hungry. Usually when I have grayling on you'll have at least one bull give chase but not one yesterday.

Fished till late afternoon and finished off with the traditional stream side BBQ.

Checked out an old trapper's cabin on the way home.

The lock was broken on the cabin so I had a peak at someone's history.

The only thing of value would be the stories locked away with the trapper who used it. Must have been a welcome retreat after a hard day working a trapline back in the day....

THat Hole is called the Hole in the Hay and has been like that for ever this time of year and if you had gone further up the road to the bridge and walk back 500yds you would of found another hole just like that where Pinto creek runs in. every once in a while there will be a BIG BULL TROUT in those holes

Food for Thought

I've fished that other hole too and had great luck there too. We got out late and I tried some exploring up stream of the hole I fished to see if I could find some new water. Some runs and spots that would be good in the summer but didn't get a sniff upstream yesterday.

While out on some mountain streams, I was noticing that trend. Fish are pooling everywhere, and chasing small little spoons easily!

great pics. thanks for sharing. i hope you closed that cabin up as tight as you found it. i doesn't look that a bear was in there recently and the owner will be happy about that. you'd be surprised, that cabin is most likely on a working like and will be used again this winter. guys don't mind if you have a peek, even seek shelter there if you need to, but close her up good when you leave.

I closed her up.We stopped by the cabin last year and the lock was intact so we just admired from the outside. This go around someone/something broke the latch and the door was open. It's right by the road so I'm sure it get's it's share of onlookers. Don't understand why someone would want to break in to it though.

What I want to know is how you found and brought this thread back from the dead? And with your first post want to know exactly how to get to a fishing hole?
Is it Friday yet??

Looks familiar, only I've always known it as Finns Hole. Further down the wagon trail there is more good holes also. Love fishing the Hay.

Man I'd say the northern Albertan Rockies is my favourite place on earth thus far. The wildhay is awesome :) not many big fish, yet tons of fun
