This is hardly a new idea. I worked on a fish farm in Deep Cove (Vancouver)in 1992/93. We used what was called a "Pred Net" which was an inpenetrable net on the outside of the main net. It protected the bottom of the pen from dogfish and such. On the outside of each pen,we would "Double Bag" which was essentially using 2 nets for each pen. Mortality from seals and sea lions was generally less than 2 fish/day/pen. It also meant twice the work when it came time for net changes/cleanings. The REALLY big threat though is from an Otter. I had heard of Otters climbing into the pens at night and teaching their young to kill. Losses could be in the thousands of fish in one night.
that is an expensive net, i wonder how effective it will be, i guess only time will tell.
