Made it up to Spencer yesterday and tried our luck Well lots of snow, lots of ice, and a few fish to boot. Fishing wasn’t the best but we caught enough to keep us interested. Absolutely beautiful country up there which always makes it worth while. Between the two of us we managed a dozen Walleyes and several Pike which were all released. One Walleye was 4lbs and the biggest Pike was 9lbs (both weighed). The rest were on the small side. The key was mobility. Every time we moved we caught a fish or two.

The trail going across Seibert was heavily drifted over with hard packed snow little trouble for the quad as it stayed on top but a bit risky for a pick-up. Snow averaged about 8” deep out on the ice but again it was hard packed from all of the wind they must of had up there. A few guys had finally busted through with trucks later in the morning. No doubt it’s 4x4 only. Note that it is unlawful to get to Spencer via the Seibert Lake route.

We did not come across any surface water on either lake and it appears it has finally frozen over. You could tell by the defined coloration of the two layers of ice. Ice overall was 18” thick (measured).
