Fly tying case

Hello folks,

My job requires that I live in motel rooms for the next couple of months, I'd like to bring my fly tying stuff with me and I'm looking for a good case that I could organise all my things in and take from place to place. Have any of you seen a case like this for sale in your travels?

I used to use a tool box from Canadian Tire. They have one that has a few trays in it. I found it to be very useful to haul around. That first one was about 2 feet long by 8"X8". For starters I would recommend sticking to this sort of box. Then as you accumulate more and more then you will have to move to something larger.

Now though I have my stuff in a very large Plano container. Mind you today I probably have about $4000 worth of fly tying supplies that I haul along. I am a bit of a fly tying material horder. I don't like to not have something handy if I need it. So every time I go into a fly shop I always spend another $50 to $150 to stock up. It's sort of an addiction. But I could spend my money in a lot worse things than fly tying supplies.

Here is what my "portable" fly tying box looks like. It is a Plano Pro 827.

The dimensions of it are 25.5" x 15.25" x 19.13"

I figured a tool chest would be the direction I went, I've never seen a fly-tie-traveller in the outdoor stores.

Did you look at the link that I posted? It's is of my whole fly tying box and shows how I pack in each layer. It makes things easier if you keep things organized. The zip lock bags help keep things seperated and organized.

I bought a suitcase from the sallyanne and use it to store my fly tying gear when I travel. It isn't super organized but works fine and keeps it all in one space. Rick.

Its brilliant...now I want one (10 of them would hold pretty much all my stuff...lol)...but where did you buy the Plano? I have been looking for that model, but am having trouble tracking one down....I hope that they have not been discontinued, but the 827 does not appear even on the Plano page.

I use the fly-tying bag from Cabela's.

Doesn't hold a ton of stuff but it's handy and works for my needs

Drop by The Fishin Hole...BW Sports has a bag with compartments for materials, etc. It's great and is only about $65.

I just separate all my stuff in the large ziploc bags, I fly a lot though so I do it out of necessity.

Then throw it all in a small bag. Works like a damn

Get the Greys Platinum series bags. I have two of them and they are nicely organized.

Gregg Distributors is an industrial supply company. They sell mostly to businesses. But you don't need to have any company affiliation or special membership to buy there.
