I don't tie all of my own flies, but I do some when I have time.

They aren't expsnsive enough to warrant doing it yourself from a cost perspective, and I have never thought that it would be that enjoyable a hobby. I know it is for some, just doesn't appeal to me. Have thought of at least taking a class to see if I would enjoy it though.

I'll be learning this winter, if anyone is up for a beer and a day of good times, let me know!

I typically only use about 12 different fly patterns, some of those like san jauns and stones I will go through 100 of each, so for me tying is about being cost effective (my SJWs cost me $0.19-$0.24 per, stones are about $0.40per) I don't really enjoy fly tying as a hobby, it's a necessary evil.
I also tie as most of the patterns I use have my own little touch that makes them not availible unless I do them.

Great winter hobby when I'm not out icefishing. Nothing more fun than catching fish all summer on the flies you tied

Fly Tying is a gentleman's hobby.

People with a superficial approach to fishing will never understand why the fly tyer works his fingers and mind in the persuance of excellence.

I tie all of my own flies. Ever since I started fly fishing, many years ago.

I also tie my own. I've developed a few of my own creations as well and have feild tested them. They work fantastic!
The last time I bought flies was last year from Wholesale Sports when they had that sale on the older flies...I couldn't pass up on $1.68 per dozen.

For me there is no greater satisfaction in the sport of fly fishing than outwitting a wily brown trout with something of my own creation...and then watching him swim away only to be fooled again on my next trip:sHa_shakeshout:
