If fishing is a sport, I am an athlete. Lots of fun until somebody loses a walleye!

to me sports = competition between people. tournament fishers may call it a sport, but im not a tourny fisher. I do it simply for my own enjoyment. I dont consider my fishing competitive, therefore i dont consider it a sport.

I do not consider fishing a sport, nor do I go fishing to catch fish. I go fishing for many reasons- being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, enjoying the scenery etc. Catching fish is a bonus.

I find it to be more of a hobby than a sport.

If I got into serious tourney fishing then I may consider it a sport, but I think for myself, that the competition would take a lot of the fun out of it for me.

I'd have to say hobby/obsession, only because I can't in anyway think of myself as an athlete. LOL. Rick.

Fishing CAN be a sport if done competitively. Personally I detest that, but it is what it is.

I would not say that competitive fishermen are athletes however. That's not derogatory or an insult. I just mean success is not primarily based on elite, highly trained physicality. It's based primarily on knowledge, strategy, etc.

Hmmm. Perhaps it is a profession? That means I'll have to start charging my grandkids! LOL. Rick.

It's a form of a spiritual practice. Irrational as any of them (it's easier to buy a fish)
"Sport fishing" is one of the last ways to get sinchronized with nature and one's basic istincts.
Some approach it as a sport and probably catch more, but most of them just don't get it I think.
And some don't get a rush when they get the first bite at all - those are hopeless as a bench version of a hunting dog, instincts are broken and their minds confused.
