Where abouts are you?
Around Edmonton there should be about 5 inches of ice on most trout ponds.

Not that much West of the city...4" at most where it's good, and some still had open water in places.

Getting better every day though :)

Too bad the snow is coming now...

Atleast were getting snow before wab is frozen over..hopefully once the lakes start freezing mother nature will do us a favor and hold off on the snow until Christmas.. Unfortanatly it's not looking like it'll happen that way :mad3:

X2. The floodwater from the heavy snowfall last year was a pain.

this is spray lakes - about 10 days ago. I'm sure it's well on its way with the cold snap we've had. Headed back up there on Wednesday.

Nope. Just been very priviledged to be a passenger into a backcountry work site.

I am absolutely shocked that there is not more snow up there. The mountains have look snow covered for about a month. Really cool picture to see the ice starting to form but still shocking there isnt more snow on the ground

On the day that pic was taken, Nov 8th, there is about 1ft of snow on the other side of the continental divide.

Anyone have any reports for the Lloyd area? Looks like I will only be working a few days instead of a few weeks and after a trip to Edmonton I would like to take my boy out

Not sure about loyd but bellis (on highway 28) had 7 inches of solid ice. Didn't venture much though. Just by the dock.

i know what your saying . horse is way heavier than a person but... 1000 pounds , divided by 4 legs and the front and back legs are 4 to 5 feet apart so the weight is well distributed ....just saying !

This is just my opinion on what to expect from Southern Reservoirs (South of Calgary) by guessing what people were saying about the Ice at MacGregor at 1.5inches to what we witnessed yesterday. We were fishing a private pond that had good clear and 7 inch ice,, though a small dug out and tree lined, the wind played on the lake ice like a diaphram with the usual expansion pops and moans. We had seven holes cut and the wind caused a consistent up and down welling of the water. So my guess is, with the larger rez's plus the warmth and these pretty hefty winds, it may look like a continuual sheet but my guess is that it's really a bunch of little sheets and not worth venturing on unless you are in shallow water, sprite on foot and know the water well,,, bring extra socks, pants and a blow torch and a bundle of wood.
Be super careful, the ice is expanding rapidly.

Did a big drive today... got super messy... and whoever says you need a 4x4... get real!

Ghost - 2" slush on unknown thickness of ice. Open water visible in the cracks in places.

Grotto Mountain Pond - open water near edges, lots of slush

Gap Lake - 8-10" of ice, slush top, open water near edges in places.

Grassi / Whitemans - lots of open water left - didn't check the ice at all, roads were super bad!

Spray - once again didn't stop and go down because there was a ton of snow going on, but looked mostly covered, I'd guess maybe 1-2".. looked real soupy!

Upper K - Still some open water, almost got stuck checking this one out, so just took a peek and got out.. the road photo's will do justice, I promise!

Lower K - lake is mostly covered - 2-3" of slush on what looked about 2" of ice 50ft directly out from the transalta building... I got my spinning set out there and stayed for about 25 minutes in the rain.

Wedge - completely frozen - lots of slush - 10-12" of ice... what the hell do grayling chase?

Barrier - looked like it had frozen over, but was melting - saw what looked like open water towards the middle - might have just been the rain though.. the shorelines looked pretty sketchy here!

Sibbald - 4-8" depending on where you go.
