I've been fortunate enough to get out on some early ice over the past couple weeks with most of the 'usual suspects' that I often fish with, and we've had some good times out there.

I suck at catching trout in open water, so this is the time of year I get even with them, before the bigger lakes like Wab freeze over and I start chasing pike!

I was also able to get out with ghostguy6 on Wednesday, and pikehunter1989 yesterday, but it seems I neglected to take any pics on those days, so here's a couple fish!

I also have to say thanks to TrollGRG for hooking me up with a sweet little backpacking stove. I've used it to make some Ichiban noodles, as well as cook up a couple fresh as possible trout...deeeeelicious! Having a nice hot lunch on a cold day of ice fishing is amazing...I wish I would have gotten a little stove a long time ago!

I do my best not to work, but then the bill start to pile up and I get angry phone calls from people wanting money!!

Fortunately my schedule is flexible :)


Truth be told I'm twitching here waiting for Wab to freeze up so I can go chase the big girls!

Yah the spot I caught my hogs in last early season has been frozen for a couple weeks now, going to check it out next weekend, full setup if the ice is thick enough. I have some secret weapons this winter :sHa_shakeshout:

The ice is safe for the full setup on one or two of the ponds around here, but that's all I've heard of so far. There's a small lake I have in mind that's full of pike and perch that I want to check out that *should* be safe for at least a person with minimal gear, but I haven't had time to check it out yet. I'll give the trout ponds a couple more trips and once I'm on the pike, that's pretty much what'll entertain me for the rest of the season :)


And I'm very curious about this secret weapon you speak of...hopefully you'll share it at some point ;)
