I was hoping to take the kids out on the ice this weekend.
was wondering what the situation is for ice in the rocky mtn house and caroline
area? any info would be appreciated as we are based in calgary.
Thanks!

Was out last weekend, there is close to 6" around Caroline. If you go, don't let the kids run around and play on the ice, there will still be lots of thin, weak spots that could let go, and you don't want to have to go swimming for a kid. Deeper water has probably less ice than what we found. We were staying close to shore in less than 5 FOW...

Also you may want to look at Open Creek Dam at Rimbey......it can be fun. Cow Lake is always popular but i dont have any reports on the ice conditions there.

We stopped there on the way home, and there were very small open spots that you could easily see, and the ice thickness was only about 4". The way that one drops off I was a bit nervous fishing, but we didn't venture very far from shore, and managed to get a couple little rainbows, and a few suckers...

phyllis lake is safe to walk on and holds a deer walking across it
but use common sense when on the first ice
