Hey everyone, I'm looking to organise a winter 'family' meet and greet where you can bring the kids, wife, friends etc. and have a nice day on the lake, we can clear an area for ice skating and hockey and make it a fun productive day.

I'm sure combined we could be this a fun family event, somewhere close to the city. I am attaching a poll, please check it out.

Also, I think its important to note, this would be at a location to be determined, and I realise some peoples answers would change due to this. I'll try to figure something southcentral for our variety of friends on this site.

I think we could do some kind of 'total fish count' type of deal for fun and bragging rights, but it would be super fun to just have a good day... thoughts?

I think maybe a walleye lake might be fun, they sound like they stay fiesty and plentiful. Could be a fun day for kids to get out and out catch the old guys.

undetermined location as of yet. We will decide that once we get some interest. Within a tim coffee getting cold of calgary, unless you drive a convertable.

Don't have little kids anymore but would enjoy getting out to talk with other hard water fishers maybe even seeing how they do things....This could be a real fun outing.....

Can anyone suggest a lake that would be a success on getting some young guns their first fish through the ice? Somewhere with decent odds?

Sylvan Lake forsure would be great tons of walleye to C&R with a jig and a minnow on the south west side of the lake and its beside the coffee shops to warm up

That sounds productive, and fairly central in the province. I'm sure a few of us would be willing to do a car pool. Thoughts?

thought there was already one planned for central? How about the famous PCR, if its for the kids to catch fish thats pretty much a given, although it "is" fishing so you never know. Old people can stay later and get some burb-in in too.

PCR would be pretty fun, although not entirely sure we would see anyone from north/central alberta attend that.

I'm in, hands down, regardless of location. Will bring the wife and the ultra-friendly giant black lab for the kiddies to wrestle with.

Sounds good ty. I'm sure we could find a place that might even be suitable for an overnighter or something, who knows :)

I live in Lloyd but would be willing to travel a few hours for something like that. Plus the kids would have a blast. Have to leave the dogs at home though. Pits aren't made for cold weather.

Calgary always has the meets, it is about time we get one going around Edmonton.

Sylvan could be a great option. Quite central in the province, we could get some of the edmonton guys down. As long as you are friendly, and don't smell bad, I have seats in my vehicle.

Thoughts on sylvan, or a lake in that close region?

Yes as Calgary is 2 hours and 7 minutes from Sylvan lake as Edmonton is also 2 hours and 7 minutes from Sylvan lake.

He previously posted, saying the walleye population on a certain portion of the lake was strong. That could be fun, they seem willing anywhere I've been with them.

Wayne - would you carpool to sylvan? I can save you a seat from SE calgary :)

Im assuming those numers came from mapquest? Sylvan is roughly 1.5 hours from Edmonton and pretty close to the same from Calgary. Travelled that road many, many times from Edmonton for work.

Seems like a good location for the big city folk, how do those in Lethbridge/MedHat feel about Sylvan?

Agreed. For this event though, I would say Gull or Sylvan is the best choice.

We tried this last year at a proposed central location such as Sylvan or Gull. There was a lot of interest initially but when it came down to it, people get busy with life and to travel a distance became inconvenient. This is just my 2 cents but based on experience, for maximum participation I'd suggest a local in the South, Central and North each organize a separate gathering with an open invitation to ALL AO members.

Note: Make sure proposed dates do not conflict with any derbies.

My 2 cents.

I'm in,,, and car pooling for Lethbridge and beyond could be worked out for gas-chipping. How about a die hard's meet & greet at Moose Lake,, never hear anything on that lake on here and it would be a well shared chunk of driving for all interested.

Same way we feel about Gull or any other lake 4 hours away. too far for a day fish. for me anyways. Going to see if we cant scrape up some of the Southerners this winter on Newell or another lake around. Would still like to attend this one though if its closer.

Newell sounds dewellble, for a southern get together and is manageable for the southern southern folks and their cousin wives and we can catch that Pike you've been lusting for. Oh no,,, a poll for a meet&greet lake is in order.

Ya anything over 3hr is a two dayer thats a tough drive after a day on the ice but if it farther south i'll do a two day.

52% would attend, 1 hour south of Calgary. Newell would be closer. Sylvan Lake seems to be central, getter done!:fighting0074:

hmmm... continue debate. With no set date, could make this a die hard, or it could initiate a couple meets for the winter. If anyone would like to organise a south meet, I'll leave that up to you. Even if we only get 10-15 people for a south/north meet, it would still be productive, and the baileys would be flowing smoothly

Ressurect this thread. I think the boys and girls club will be a good meet for us south people, to fish following the conclusion of the event, and have a good time. Now for a multi-zone, is more what this thread is after I think.
