outdoors forever

So, my wife, Tonya really kicked it up a notch this past week. Usually we always go out together on hunts, but due to conflicting work scheduals, kids in school, etc. she decided that she was going alone for her buck! Which both surprised me and made me proud!
She had to work last night at 5:30, but wanted to get out for a quick hunt before, at a spot we have that is fairly close to town. We met in the doorway at 4:00 as I was getting home and she was going hunting! 45 minutes later the phone rings - BUCK DOWN BABY!!
She had got to her spot, walked a few hundred yards in, and set up between a few poplars. About half hour past and a deer walked out along the edge of the trees, but just as she identified it as a small buck, it bolted. Just as it was time to leave she got up, gathered her shooting stick and fold up chair, and turned back for the truck. Glancing up at the bushline to the east, about 120 yards, was a deer broadside. Up came the binos, yes - a buck! She put all her stuff down slowly, brought her .243 up and took a freehand shot. The deer didn't react! So she chambered another round and fired again. The buck took a few steps, started swaying and flicking his tail, then toppled over!
When she called me she was just bubbling! It was sweet. She tagged him, and then headed for town for work, and when I managed to find a sitter for the kids at 6:00 I went out, field dressed him and brought him home to hang up.
He's not a huge buck by any means, but she did it all by herself ( minus the gutting ) and I couldn't be more proud of her! Congratulations, Tonya! Job well done.
