Well its been a long season and i have put some major time in and walked my #$% off. I passed up a great mature 4x4 in early november due to it being just off the land i had permission. I lined up permission shortly after and hunted the area hard only never to see that same deer again.
On November 29th i was on my way to my hunting land and thought i would do a drive by of the field prior to my walk. I noticed a large buck around 8:15am in the field so i quickly went back to park the truck at my dads and began a walk to the field through a cutline towards the field. The snow was very crunchy and after a good 10minute walk i saw a deer dart across moving deeper in the field on my left side. Just as i was to step out in to the field i heard a loud crunch on my right. I looked over to my right to see a hunter staring at this deer through his scope with his rifle with me standing in between them. I also noticed his truck parked way back on the highway with his flashers on. I approached the guy that claimed to have permission (later confirmed he did not) the guy quickly backed down stating i should take the deer and started walking towards his truck.
Fortunately the deer was on a mission and not to concerned. I quickly opened the Bi Pod and sat on the ground and fired a round instantly dropping him. The shot hit through the ribs but a little high clipping the spine. Was approximately a 200yr shot with my trusty 308.
When i approached i was pleasantly surprised to find the small drop tine i did not see from the angle.
On a side note that guy was also kicked off the property yesterday evening from my dad as he was parked in the field. My dad was telling him he will be reported if he comes back the guy ignored him completely my dad so he walked behind to look at his license plate. The guy instantly spun his tires speeding through the field.
Trespasser aside I'm EXTREMELY HAPPY!!! My wife is not to excited about me mounting it but I am!! This is my largest deer and worked hard all year for the opportunity.
Enjoy the pics:
