I've been struggling with the "Christmas Tree Tag Decoration" issue for a few years now. Can't seem to find a deer that I want to use my tag on. This season was no different other than I've had some added pressure from my growing kids to shoot something.
We got home from my daughter's appointment at Children's Hospital at 4:36 on the 28th. I grabbed my rifle and went to watch our field 'til dark. A fawn came out first and shortly after that I saw this guy "mounted" on momma deer. They finished their little rendezvous and came into the field to eat. Not at all the buck I wanted, but with 2 days left and the kids after me to get something I decided to fill my tag.
Best decision ever! You can't imagine how cool it was to see the reaction from them when we got out to the deer! They were all over it! My boy says "Whoa! It's a big buck!" My daughter says "Mommy, that's a whitetail buck!" She had her gloves off, poking his eyes and touching him all over. When I said it was time to go in for supper, she said "Can we eat him tonight?"
I've been looking for something to put a happy ending on my season, and I think I found it.
