Hey everyone,
I want to put an electric trolling motor on my 14 1/2' drift boat for lake fishing. The boat weighs around 400lb with me and gear. what should I look at for thrust. The boat is rated for a 9.9 horse

Thanks

I would go with the biggest you can get in a 12 volt version. This way you can have the extra power if it is needed.

55 lbs of thrust is the biggest 12 volt you can get. That would be perfect for a boat that size

even a 30lb trust would be great on a boat like that, especally for slow trolling

I used a 55 lb Minkota thrust to move my mod front, flat btm 14'-0 wide.I sold the boat. The boat weighed in at 325 lbs.I still have the motor if your interested $ 100.00.Works great 12volt..

I had a 42 pound Minn Kota originally mounted on s 16' Mirrocraft , later moved to a 20' Lund Alaskan and it was fine for both. I've upgraded to a 55 lb 24 volt for the Alaskan and it's almost too much. When it kicks in on autopilot you've got to be careful it doesn't throw you off the forward deck. Anything above 40 lbs should be fine for your application..
