Anyone check out Newell lately? should be some decent ice in a few places at least. This is the time of year I got a couple weeks of crazy pike action in that area, we were getting dissapointed when they were only 10 and 12 pounders, This year I want the one that got away, I KNOW it was 30 easy. No more circle hooks for pike ever for this cowboy.

I'm stuck in a bad 3 week stretch of work otherwise I'd be punching holes.
First couple of weeks of ice are always my best times....

you bet, after the initial insanity it slowed huge, but hey its fishing, even slow beats work anyday. :sHa_shakeshout: couple feet more water this year in my spot, but hopefully it wont make too much difference.

Ive had at least 3 way bigger on my line, but that one was the biggest Ive landed so far, and because I got to share her with friends, probaby the most exciting so far. Through the ice anyways. :sHa_shakeshout: she tangled my camera cable, as well as Marcus's line, and the cheap fly reel I was using fell apart right after. I retired the little jig I was using, and you know what? doesnt take a monster to make some pretty awesome memories. (helps though) :sHa_sarcasticlol:

I can wait to get out to wad, Maybe a couple more weeks. And dont worry about the jealous ones. Here is a trick when targeting trophies. Drill 5-6 holes side by side (we use a 10inch blade),go 7-10 inches deep and one hole at the end that goes straight threw that isn't connected to the other ones, just one inch away, clean out all the ice and snow and chop the top of the last one to fill your livewell. keep the fish in there until your ready for pics and vids.

it was in the hole 3 or 4 times before I could get her without hurting her. not much you can do with way too light gear and no drag. I wasnt trying for a pike, I was trying for a walleye that was hanging around, she was a big surprise.
