It's been a long time since I set the alarm for 4am for a fishing trip but today it was worth it. I wanted to catch the morning bite and that meant no messing around. Heading to Peppers this morning was like playing dodge ball with a hoofed army. Had to do evasive manouvers twice around Tomahawk to avoid two herds of deer crossing the hiway.
Once I hit gravel at 752 I set a record for the most moose I've seen in one trip. From where the gravel started to Peppers I encountered 2 Bull mose, 7 cows and 3 calves. Talk about a healthy population.

I hit the trunk road at first light and it looked like it was going to be a great day.

The Z71 worked great and the shack went up quickly.

Action started right away with tiny Northland jigs. Most of the takes were done right after I bounced the jig off the bottom.

I got into several small brookies and then a big guy came out of no where and hammered the jig after I worked it to the top and back down again.

The depth of the water was between 3-5 feet. After a bit of a lull some big ones came in and were attracted by the flash of a tiny green and gold spoon.
This guy gave me a heck of a fight.

Caught and released a few more little guys and called it around 1pm. Was a great day to be out on the ice.

good report did you see anything of size in the water.(2lb+) there should be a few lurking on the area of the lake you setup in.

Ya I missed one big one on a couple of kernels of corn. Pretty neat watching them try to strip the hook clean with out hooking themselves.

Neat pics. Thanks for sharing. I almost always see moose when I am up in that country.
