Built myself a new shack this year Im awful proud of. Its basically done, just need to finish:
Need to fab a support for the chimney outside
Need to tack some indoor/outdoor to the floor
Need to get the wife to sew up some seat cushions
Need to fab up a tow bar
Need to install a couple small fans in the ceiling

Its 8x12 inside. 6 holes, 2 benches. Wood stove inside. Insulated /vapour barrier all the way around. My stove is way overkill for this lil shack lol. Its designed to heat a house and Ive got it in a 100 sq ft shack lol. Im sittin in here now and its HOT in here, Ive been shedding clothes for 20 mins. I fish with ladies mostly so this works in my favour lol.

This shack is obviously pretty heavy, designed to park on the lake and stay there for the season. As soon as this one is done and parked Im going to build a smaller one (5x8) that fits in the back of the truck so we arnt limited to just one lake.

The way it sits right now Im at around $500 out of pocket but I work for a sawmill so I get a substantial discount on lumber, the shingles were free, I already had the stove and pipe and I got the windows for free

Total wood cost was around $250 or so
Insulation / vapour barrier was $150 or so
Chimney Thimble and tin was $140

I expect the final cost to be around $700 somewhere, and I am considering renting it out on weekdays if I can talk myself into it. Id hate to have someone ruin something we worked so hard to create.

Nice. The stove may be too close to the two holes. The heat could do a number on the line or accidental contact with the surface would instantly melt it. You may want to put in a heat reflector just in case. I have also seen rods melt.

I have blackout curtains for the windows, but also going to build shutters to help prevent vandalism. Havnt entirely decided on a lake yet. The stove is a bit further from the holes than it appears, but may still be an issue. Right now its 4" away. Wer going to try it and see how it goes. Very little heay comes off the front.

I am curious as to what the weight is going to be when fininshed? How would you transport it? Dont get me wrong its FANTASTIC and could double as a man-cave for the back yard. As for a name...... Walleye weigh station, Pikes Point, Perch place, CO`s Lookout !

As it sits its right around 400 lbs. Not light lol. We have a pretty simple system set up to move it. Wer gonna back the trailer up to it, put a pipe under the front of the skis and winch it up onto the deck. To unload, drill a hole behind it, drop a dead man in and do it all in reverse. Its designed to stay on the ice all winter as moving it is a process lol

Nice looking shack. With all that insulation you won't need much of a fire to keep it toasty in there. Sleeping bag on the bench and a bit of fire wood outside ready to stoke the stove, and you could stay over night in that very comfortably.

Good idea on the smaller one for a portable one too. That way you can check out other locations, in case your drop spot for the first one isn't productive.

Cheers,
Rob

Good tip for anyone using a wood burner in the Hut.

Get some Coal... its kinda hard to find but its still available

A buddy of mine used to take his boys on a sleep over in his hut
and after he gets a good bed of coals with wood he would
throw in a lump or two of coal and it would last a long long time
with good even heat .
