Lighter ice auger

I have a new Jiffy 30 .... 10 " and my arthritis is
so bad having trouble lifting and operating it .
Are any of those other lighter machines any good ,
anyone know what is the lightest . I might go to a smaller hole '
I am having so much trouble couldnt screw in the pegs for my ice cube .
Doc says stay out of the cold , old lady stopped me from drilling a hole in the hardwood .....:lol:

I have seen one and used one....and they are slick and Light!!!

Runs great, as long as the blades are sharp, cuts so FAST and SMOOTH....but I know they are pricey...

But if the option is sit and home and make perogies with the wife...or get out fishing....WHO CARES what it costs

Man I'm starting to feel old to.:lol: I plan on getting rid of my Jiffy 30 / 10'' this summer. The joints get sore hauling it around and I'm getting tired of the pull starting. I'm looking at getting an electric auger this summer. It is comparable in weight but no more pull starts and no hanging onto the throttle lever while the auger spits smoke at you. I also have an Ice-Cube and I bring my cordless drill with me each trip. I keep the bit in with the pegs for the tent. Predrilling a hole is the only way to go.

I use a 3hp jiffy and I am 67 yrs old and have no problem. It starts good the blade is sharp all I do is start it and let it drill the hole itself. The hardest part is pulling it out of the hole. If your having fun you should take a little diversity along withn the good.

I have owned a Strikemaster lazer express for three years this auger is light weight and is durable.The blades are the shaver style.The auger starts no problem 2 pulls max.The one I own has the the 8" auger attachment.I pound anywhere between 15 to 40 holes per day.I have replaced the blades once but it was a factory error they over hardened the original blades.Strikemaster sent me a new set no problems.All you have to do is give it throttle and hang on cuts like a dream .If you purchase one look at stores in the states I seen a Lazer mag express the other day for 185.00 plus shipping.Most places if you ask will send it by snail ,which keeps the cost down.Good luck:)

I retired my old Jiffy after about 12 yrs of good service and bought a Husqvarna 2 yrs ago. Works great, have drilled a wack of holes with no problems. Starts easy, idles good and drills like a dam.
Kind of nice using a lighter machine after a day of drilling holes searching for the SPOT.

Looking at the specs it would be as light as the huskie and wouldnt have to mix gas. Had robin engines on farm seem to run well. Im getting tired of the 3hp model too.

I have a strikemaster lazer 8". 23 lbs. Works great no problems.First year tho.My freinds all have jiffy 10". They all like mine because of the weight and way less noise.Mine also cuts faster.Have no problem with 8" compared to
10".

One of my fishing partners is 75 years young and he uses a jiffy 2hp-8in. i don't know what it weighs but he has no problems using it or packing it around. just an idea for you.

Yes a jiffy 2hp 8 in will be a lot better then a 10 inch model 30. We own a 10" jiffy stealth XTS and man that thing is a beauty its got ripper blades, but it is quite heavy.

When you do go out fishing, when you mix your fuel, also put a small bit of fuel enhancer in it. It will make it last longer and it keeps your fuel line from gunking up. I just retired my model 30 10" last year it was a 1974 model and shes still going hard I sold it to a nice young guy that lives in drayton valley.

I tried using synthetic 2 cycle oil for the gas mixture and my old jiffy starts and runs like new

Check out the Nils Master at Northpro Sports website. They are out of Saskatoon. It is a superb unit, light, fast and easy starting. I have had one for 20 years and have been very satisfied with it. I would not hesitate to buy another. Second to the Nils, Husky. Fuelled with premium gas and Opti 2oil, you have an auger that digs like a mad badger!!! The Opti 2 oil is blended at 100:1, giving you higher revs and very little smoke, as well as no oil residue puking out of the muffler.

I have the Eskimo below. I bought it for a lot of different reasons, one of those being it was 10 pounds less than any of the Jiffy's on the market. The other reason is the sheer speed of it. Almost twice the rpm of the Jiffy. My 1.8hp cuts a 10" hole as fast as my buddies 3hp 8" Jiffy. And the price point was substantially less. It's run trouble free for 2 plus seasons and a lot of holes. Hope that helps.

man where u get your info from white lighting is only a 1.2 horsepower and i know it lighter then the mako. Also the mako blades are **** compared to the jiffy ripper blades.

As far as I know, the smallest size of engine Jiffy carries is 2hp.

I did look into what the Eskimo Mako weighs and I'm not sure where Bryce got his info...

according to those sites the jiffy white lightning weighs 30-31 pounds depending on size of blade, and the eskimo weighs 36 pounds(dosent specify what size of blade the eskimo that weighs 36 pounds comes with)

anyways(coles notes:tongue2: ), the jiffy white lightning does not come in 1.2hp and the eskimo mako does not weigh 22 pounds. I should say the sources I found do not say that..

Anyways, Ill happily race anybody with my 3hp Jiffy Stealth, it owns every auger out there. No competition :evilgrin:

Sorry to say but my buddy has ya beat!! He has a brand new STIHL posthole auger and it most certainly would put you to shame!!! He didn't buy it for ice but he got the attatchment and WOW!! And to add to that me and my buddy on an 8" hand auger blew the head off a '3HP 10'' JIFF. I think I just OWNED you!! lol

Dont matter how tall they are , its the diameter of the body , a 2 yr old will slide right through it to the bottom of the lake , so would a bean pole skinney underfed fully grown man , maybe like yoursef , haaaaaaaaaa.

a 2 year olds leg could go thru a 6,8 and 10 inch hole...you could also get in an accident on the way out fishing, or you might break thru the ice...better not even bring em out!!!:rolleyes:

anyways, if your not after big fish..i guess you dont need it. a 40+ inch pike isnt always the easiest thing to turn up a 10 inch hole, nevermind going to a smaller 8 inch hole.
