Here is a link for all to see regarding just how safe one needs to be when they want to brave the ice. This was an entirely stuid move in my opinion, but there is always one person out there who believes it is alright. In this particular case which just happened last week..there was only 4 inches of ice on the lake and he was all but 15 feet from the shoreline. However the truck is definately completely sunk. This took place in Manitoba and not alberta. Not only will he face a huge bill for the track hoe to have to come a long ways to get it out, but then the loading of that track ho and no insurance coverage on his vehicle. Pricey, but got away with his life and his passengers life in very safe hands due to individuals who happened to witness the ordeal and crawl on their bellies across the ice to pull them both out.
All I will say is... if you are unsure... don't do it.
