hey dudes and dudettes!
looking to take my wee 3 yr old out for his 1st ice trip over xmas.
being 3 he's got no patience or stamina for long trips.
i hardly ever fish close to town so i don't know which spots have been good lately.
any thoughts on a good choice of somewhere close where we have a good chance at seeing fish and maybe keeping a few perch or trout?
any ideas?
thanks and cheers, gw

Give Spring Lake a try... close to town just off hwy 16 and you shouldnt have a problem finding some fish...

Hasn't that lake had bad winter kill and summer kill? Or have I heard wrong?

At 3, you could put a smelt on the end of a line and let him pull it up. He wouldn't know the difference.

Sure fire way to keep him entertained and not get skunked!

IMO it must have, was out there last weekend for a couple hours. Made swiss cheese of one of the best area for perch and couldnt find a single fish.

Talked to one guy out there, said he fishes the lake alot and hasent seen a perch since last winter. Even last winter fishing wasnt the greatest.

I know the trout guys must be happy but it was a really great perch pond, even some decent sized ones in there. Its too bad..

I often took my kids to Nakamun lake when they were small. The lake used to be full of perch, all I ever did was take the perch off the hook and load em up again with a maggot. They must have pulled out hundreds. We had loads of fun.

It's a little over an hour, depends where in Edmonton you live.

I think a few of us are trying it Saturday
