I need one! Can you point me to the make/model of the amp and speaker so I can source my own parts?

I got all the parts from the states when I go there every summer.

Mine is a work in progress. Radio Shack seems to be the only source of that mini amplifier every one seems to use and they don't ship to Canada. No stores here, I could find. Got the Speaker from Ko-Hen in Red Deer and am waiting on an industrial mini amp, from a Calgary source. Not pretty, like the picture and I'll have to build a case for it. Gonna cost about 50. by the time all is said and done.

There are lots of mini 9v amps that are made for electric guitars.I am sure one would work for this?

Example
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Portable-Audio-Guitar-Bass-Mini-Amplifier-Clip-Amp-Headphone-Speaker-/180735388670?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item2a14ab2bfe

I am sure this would also work if you were willing to do a little wiring

Not sure how many watts the Radio Shack one puts out

here is another idea for you, we have used a slightly differnt version of this amp, they work well and are cheap. I used Pyle horns with it. Just need a battery, a 12v 6Ah will run it all day

did you do a China ship? How did that go? Looks pretty good for the coin.

There are lots of animal sound recordings online, but it does take some work to find exactly what one wants. Most lists i have seen had a few but not even close to all of the sounds one would normally want.

One such site is

Here's a different source for very similar amps. Better prices. I've ordered many things from this site and they've never let me down. Expect about 4 weeks for delivery from China.

Found a source for some PA speakers under $15. This is another Chinese website. Shipping is included in the posted price. I've ordered cell phone/computer accessories from these guys without any issue (other than long delivery).

Combine one of these with the $20 motorcycle amp with built-in MP3 player and you'd have a pretty decent unit.

Those amps with the card slot...
How would you toggle to your preferred file ? Count the clicks on the remote ?
The mp players, or amp with the LCD screens would be the preferred type, IMO, as your file names would be displayed. Someone correct me if I'm off on this.

Good thought TBark. That might make it easier.

My plan was to use the extended calling sequences you can download from the varmintal.com website. These pre-made sequences start with 2 minutes of silence so you can get set up and hide. If you used these, you only need one .mp3 file on your player. That should simplify the process rather than having to click through different tracks/playlists.

it's great to see a young fellow taking such interest in fine tuning his hunting gear. here is my e-caller prototype. it is the biggest baddest ghetto blaster i could find. that hairy weasel on the top is my dogs old chew toy.
you guys can laugh picturing me lugging this monstrosity out into a field but when i was testing it yesterday to see if it worked on battery power 2 magpies started a ruckus outside my shop door as i was playing that haunting melody "snowshoe hare in distress". i can't wait to field test it. hopeing that coyotes will die laughing.........hope i can fit it in my truck lol.

Go get the Cass Creek Big Horn speaker:

http://www.casscreek.com/Cass-Creek-Big-Horn-Remote-Speaker

Go on those websites and get all your sounds and load them on a little iPod or your phone and your done! Use it all the time with good luck. The speaker runs on C batteries and has a little hook you can hang from a tree, only drawback is it's not wireless, but does come with 75' of cord.

Good for you young fellow. BTW you are very good at this I can see. I know where you can get some money if you'll work on a system that has a remote on and off.

As some of the members have, said it is wonderful to see your initiative. Many thanks for a great video and an affordable caller.

X2 guys.

Have you have any real success with your callers in the field Trap?!

Or did you break down and buy one?

What a timely thread. I was just looking into this as I had thought of doing some coyote hunting with a friend and realized we would have more success with a caller. Can't believe the price of the things. From $200 on the low-end to $700 for top-dollar caller, who has money to blow like that?

Thanks guys for being pioneers!! Will be checking out some of the links :)

Speakers are easy to source out. Cant seem to find an available amp. Want to use the one shown my TrapShooter, as it is mostly used on all homemade callers that ive researched.

Anyone able to source one?

TBark
01-26-2014, 06:18 PM
I put one together when Trap first put this thread up.
Mine is a simple cheap mp3 player, ear bud jack to a speaker horn.
Mpg files are various, but the rabbit and doe distress sequences that last 10-15 min are the best.
I also use it in conjunction with a quiver critter bunny decoy.
I rewired the one battery wire of the critter thru a relay controlled with a FOB, 100 yds range.
Better this way than the critter shaking continually.

I ended up buying a foxpro and sold my homemade ecaller to a hunting buddy. I was out all weekend, did 12 stands and only saw 1 yote from a distance away. My hunting bud on the other hand with my homemade caller has shot 13 in a few weeks.

Haha, probably just the luck of the day more than anything, FoxPros are still a great product for sure.

I just ordered in some pieces, hopefully it will turnout well. I've tried it with just an iPod dock style stereo, definitely not ideal. Not enough volume and I believe a big key is the horn style speaker to really throw the sound a good distance.

Glad to know your system can be effective at least!

Cheers
