Stinky Coyote

It wil get beat. I know of a archery one that beats it.

only way it gets beat if he has it entered in alberta archery records...or gets it p&y scored as the guy that runs the records automatically grabs any alberta entries into p&y via the quarterly reports or some shizz like that? and then puts em in the alberta archery records...have no doubt there are some hogs never entered, there always are, as it stands...potty is da man and by a comfy margin, bunch of us in the top ten scrambling over a few inches or eighths lol

as for finding the records i think approx. 10 bucks(dollars) will get you a copy of the current alberta archery records...anyone have contact info, i have name on top of my head but don't want to mispell it, and to anyone who knows more about the alberta archery records and process of how animals get in...please correct me if i don't have my facts straight on the process etc.

from the last copy of alberta archery records i saw there are over 450 entries in the typical mule deer category and about 75 entries in the typical velvet category but i suspect with our new sept 1 start date we will see that velvet category grow...your buck Justin should do well in that one! i have a velvet one that nets 172 3/8" and is in the top 25 fyi

nice muley wall!, chet...we have some work to do but we r getting close lol, you make it sound like theres more than just the 7, was just flippin through big buck summer edition either this or last year and i think i saw that middle deer in there with the kickers off each back side, nice collection, i could have added a 7th this year to match that wall and enter my own 1000 club but passed on two deer (under 30 yrds for both and solid p&y) early in the season that i would have loved in the last week but had my eye on this old bugger and so i held out, wasn't an inches deer either, just old, heavy, losing points and inches past couple years...i just wanted him...for the history, character, age etc., never panned out but was more than okay with eating the tag

Well the one I am talking about was shot the year before Peres monster. It net 210 or 213". I can't remember. If he ever registers it it will be the new world record. Not knockin yor deer Pete. That thong is a frickin monster.

I'm a little suspect, that a deer of that caliber would have made a lot more noise, than just coming from you ,now...no offense, but if he got it scored, and didn't enter it that's one thing, but I'm sure the scorer would have pushed hard for a new world record to be acknowledged, and more people would have talked about it"................ was it home scored?

yeah, i forget how the scoring worked, when i showed up with the rack and the bust off kicker off a back fork i asked how it gets scored as i shot him that kicker was on but on jump one or two through the thick crap (windy day tight stand of small trees) he didn't have it, i followed blood trail back and found it very close to where i shot him...chet said it could be scored either way for p&y (can include a busted one or not), as he stood there before i shot him he grossed 202 7/8, the score sheet may say 199 something gross with the 185 something net, chet can confirm maybe but i shot him a 203"er ;)

i might have left the kicker behind had i worried it might hurt my net but actually i was more concerned with gross....still am lol, at the time i thought i shot a 180 class deer as i had not scouted him at all, it was a surprise that ended quickly and i had to yes or no essentially just the frame size in a blink and it was a yes, good thing too ha ha, i had no idea how the deeper forks would push this thing over 200" until several hours later and hanging in garage i rough taped him....i was very surprised by the tape, re-tape, re-calculate and then again and then holy crap...i just killed a deer over 200"....:)

An unselfish hunting partner, with the same amount of dedication and drive is a lot harder to find than any trophy book animal. But when you do find a guy like that and you stick to a regimented scouting and hunting system, with numerous sacrifices , great things can happen!

Pope and Young does not allow broken tines to be included at this time but Boone and Crockett does if it meets certain criteria.

Here is the quote from the B&C website:

Trophies that have been damaged and not repaired may be brought to the attention of the Records Committee by Measurers for consideration for inclusion in the Club's Awards Programs and records books. If the Committee, or its appointed representatives, such as B&C records department staff or a Judges Panel, agrees that the broken parts belong to the trophy and can be repositioned in their original configuration to enable an accurate measurement, the damaged trophy material can be included in the measurements and subsequently repaired. Submission of trophies with verifiable and damaged parts for examination by the Records Committee or a Judges Panel shall be at the expense of the owner.

I pulled up the score sheet on your buck, Stinky to check. It was entered in P&Y without the broken point. My notes showed the broken point would have added 4 6/8" to the total gross score. All inches including broken point 202 7/8".

you brought it up, don't expect news of a world record typical muley from Alberta not to have people ask for proof or call bull...proof or it doesn't exist, what else would any hunter in Alberta who loves big muleys say? this sort of thing is a 'have to see it to believe it' you've seen it, you believe it, we haven't, so we don't

Yeah if the picture was posted then a majority of this discussion would not have taken place. It would take what? Two minutes to edit out a face and upload a picture to photobucket?

There's a lot of big critters out there most folk don't know about. One of the largest sheep slams in NA isn't that far from me, and there ain't a one of them in the book. I've got pics of a mule shot this year that will go over 240", not much word out about that one either.

You are right. I know of some monster elk that will never be entered in any book. Some people just don't want any attention, and then there are some that have the pics and stories emailed off to every hunting mag they can before the animal cools off. What ever floats your boat I guess.

I don't hunt deer, and I would not even speculate on what I would do. I do know that I am by nature a quiet person and I would not want to go through the crap that comes with recognition. Money can do funny things so I won't out and out say that I would keep quiet, but I'm pretty sure it would be a good bet. A big part of my good time outdoors is being alone so my hunting and fishing spots stay with me, not to hoard the game but to preserve my solitude.

I can fully understand not entering them and keeping them quiet. Finding good spots to hunt is getting nearly impossible and the greed that comes from the outfitting community wrt shooting big animals is tremendous. Heck, some of the guys on this thread have gone so far as to publicly advertise a WTB 200" mule deer. And you want these new big buck hunters to disclose everything? Not surpirsed at all...

just animals we like to hunt not the air we breath
Agreed, to the average joe albertan, yes. To an outfitter it is their "air" alright. Sad really.

I don't have any deer that most would consider trophies but these to are trophies to me.

The first was my first mule buck. Well first buck of any sort actually. Does not score well but is 30" wide and fairly heavy.

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o296/tankta/IMG_0662.jpg

My second is quite similar to the first, little better tine length but not quite as wide and not as much mass. This hunt was memorable because it was with a good friend and he also got a decent 4x4 on the same day.

Oh I'm not worried about being dethroned. I just hate rumors! and like everyone else on this site, I want the truth to come out. That's why we have
7 pages discussions on new sheep proposals, or hunt farms or you pick the topic...........

I also get non stop phone calls, texts and pm's about one source, and the conversations and concerns are all the same.

If that deer does indeed exist and it is what your saying, I would be the first to shake the guys hand. I would want nothing more than to give the deer the
Recognition it deserves. I also would love Alberta to get the recognition it deserves about the potential Muleys this province can grow. I would love to and another WR to Alberta list!

I also find strange that one source has been derailing threads about this province having a terrible mule deer herd, and Saskatchewan being amazing.
meanwhile potentially knowing that something like a WR may have existed. Kinda playing both sides!

I think I speak for everyone, we just want the truth!!!

same guy who started it ruined it, i bet the shy owners of these apparently two new world records are thrilled about the chatter, holy crap, end of day i think most here realize they are still just deer lol...just animals we like to hunt not the air we breath

I guess you need to go back about 4 pages, refresh yourself and tell me how I was a contributing factor in the dismantleing of this thread. I will assist by telling you, leaning on a guy to repost a picture of a mega mule that some have seen, so I and others could see, was not the broken track that led to this. Guess what, NOW I am helping wreck a good picture sharing by responding to this. Congrats on your mule, lets see some pics of the others!

Here are some live bucks I photographed.

I watched this buck grow old over the years. This is likely the best rack I saw on him.

This is him again a couple years later

in bc we dont have a trophy mule deer herd but we have some nice deer and we can hunt from sept. 1 to the 10th of december. i like the system we have and there are still nice deer. what are the regulations on hunting in saskatchewan that produce such nice deer.

The sad thing is that the areas where these photos were taken have now been totally decimated by CWD culls. You still find the odd one in these areas but they are few and far between. These areas are just starting to get back onto the draw the last year or so, hopefully we will one day see these kind of deer in those areas in decent numbers again. A couple of these zones had 3-4 thousand deer shot out of them in a single year of the CWD slaughter. I saw 2 guys who took 33 deer between the two of them one year. Made me sick.

in bc, there are lots of places where access prevents a lot of hunting pressure, thereofre some nice deer will exist. i lived there for a while and can assure you that bc is nothing like saskatchewan when it comes to numbers of big mule deer.

mules arent very bright and without protection in some form or another, they just wont grow big. they need to live to maturity and in most places, hunting pressure assures that they dont. saskatchewan gives them the protection they need in the form of limited hunting. mules are on a draw with tag numbers set so that not all the bucks get killed at a young age.

that doesnt mean that all bucks grow up....lots do die young, but there are less tags issued than there are bucks ensuring that there is a percentage that survive to maturity. in alberta, that was the case from about 188 to the early 2000s. lately though....there have been far too many tags issued resulting in the death of the vast majority of bucks at a very young age.

whitetails however are different. their survival tactics are much better, and they dont need to be protected from hunters. they are smart enough to have a good percentage of bucks make it to maturity without help. the kicker for them is habitat. thats why the southern parts of alberta have so few mature bucks around....the bald prairie gives them no escape cover. the odd one that lives down here does it by using a sanctuary. no hunting land, parks, and even cities will produce some good bucks...but never in the numbers that are in the central to northern regions.

back to mules.....in all fairness, saskatchewans lower human popualtion is helping too. archers there are killing mature bucks, but here in alberta, archers are killing a lot of immature bucks as well. archery tags are over the counter, but it may be time to get archers on a draw to reduce harvest. im a bowhunter too, and id rather hunt quality bucks every couple years than baby bucks every year. either way....the way mules are managed today in alberta, this province has no hope of rivalling saskatchewan in the production of trophy mules.

ive met a few that did that too cam. the most ridiculous thing i ever heard was the guy who had a truckload of them beetching and moaning that were no big bucks around. :angry3: that arsehole has been whining for 5 years now that its all the governments fault for killing all the deer, but cant see the fact that he contribuuted....and still does to this day pounding does left and right.

the game departments made some very stoooopid decisions, but the fact remains that hunters are the ones carrying it out. we have seen countless examples on this board over the last few weeks. so many guys willing to go to the east side of the province to smack the few deer left there.....but beetching the whole time about the low deer numbers. makes me wanna slap some sense into some of them.....but i doubt thats even possible.

Dont kid yourself, while Sask hasnt damaged their Trophy Mule deer to the extent Alberta has, as CLB has said, Sask has done some mega CWD culls in the great sandhills region and up along the border in the lloydminster region. Then they went to the earn a buck system where you shoot two does and take the heads in and they give you a buck tag. Some of the areas they give out a high number of tags just like Alberta. Like I mentioned, sask hasnt taken it to the extent Alberta has but they havent got off free and easy either.

im aware of what has been going on. it seems that serm had an initial knee jerk reaction there too, but at least they SEEM to be learning and taking notes on what has been discovered elsewhere. they are backing off the kill em all attitude and on the surface appear to be using the available science to guide their decisions.

alberta though is steadfastly refusing to accept what is already known is places like colorado and wyoming about the disease. culling is completely useless and it has been proven over and over. in fact, srd here has even resorted to flat out lying and deceiving to further someones agenda. the full page cwd report in this falls hunting regulations are loaded with absolute outright bullschit stories about what is going on in the world. nobody in government seems to care that those making decisons in srd are completely incompetent. i see no hope of righting things here in the near future.

at least you guys in saksatchewan have a hope. serm at least seems to want to do whats right based on science and not by gosh and by golly.

Absolutely I agree with you 100%. Im sitting at a priority 6 right now for muley bucks because I just cant make my mind up on where to take it seeing as my home zone has been decimated by the whole CWD thing and I cant bring myself to using a P6 when a P1 gets a tag there and they give out 250+ tags/year. Back to Mule Deer pics though.

If you don't want to enter an animal for the book that's fine I understand but guys who are shooting this big bucks are clearly trophy hunters. They've never asked to see other guys bucks? They can look at other guys big deer but no one can see theirs.... I like seeing big horns even if they aren't mine. Just doesn't make sense to me.
