There is no definition..............If you think you have one, somebody else will put you in your place.......especially those guys who make self bows using bone and rock tools, sinew strings, obsidian arrow heads and wear loin cloths when hunting in the dead of winter. The Trad Police are real!

Ok................I've been known to hunt with longbows and recurves..........but I use a sight and an arrow rest on one of my recurves and I hunt from treestands and blinds......... Dohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

if your using a bow with no training wheels, no let off, and shooting instinctive, i call that traditional, no matter if in a stand, blind, boat, under a rock, home made self bow, or factory made mass produced bow, wood/carbon/aluminum arrows.

just get out and have fun, sad when archery gets picked apart like fishing does with the high class flyfishermen that mock spin fishers

I would LOVE to hunt trad. this year. I can't justify to the wife on $400 for a stick and a string though.

$400? you Must be talking about Chek-Mates? go see Jack Kempf, and then you can try and get the wife to justify $600 - $1000. worth every penny

Where is that Jack Kempf located Bigbore? I didn't know that this idea of traditional archery was so confusing. I think though that Bigbore gave a good definition if their was one. A traditional archer usually knows if he's traditional I would imagine. If anyone wants to argue about it I don't want to hear it. Absolutely rediculous. What do you shoot Bigbore? Do you do anything with the Alberta Trad. Bowhunters Association?

i have mucked around a bit and knapped some obsidian arrow points. i would love to some day see how they work!!

All i hear is that Trad shooters have more fun. I must be a trad shooter because I have a blast.

You might be a trad shooter if....

You consider archers who shoot with bows that have wheels as Archers in Training,

You rarely have to worry about an equipment failure,

the only tool you carry is a hunting knife...

You have purposely destroyed an arrow just because it was something interesting to shoot at

When you see a turkey you see fletches for 7 dozen arrows,

You have used to have 4 cousins, now you have 3 cousins and a wife and there was not a funeral.

You laugh when you miss and You laugh and look surprised when you hit,

You gave up on compound archery because you needed an excuse to miss, and said compund archery was too complicated.

Tuning your bow means twisting the string,

You adjust sights by smacking yourself in the head to uncross your eyes,

You can sight in anywhere as long as there is ground.

You can grow facial hair and show it off, in a specific design known as scruffy,

You have had strangers walk up to you and give you $10 for a meal.

Your bows are worth more than the car carrying them (Pete Ward)

A traditional archer usually knows if he's traditional I would imagine. If anyone wants to argue about it I don't want to hear it. Absolutely rediculous. What do you shoot Bigbore? Do you do anything with the Alberta Trad. Bowhunters Association?
Jacks out in Sherwood park. His bows are pretty popular, lots of models to choose from. Last time i talked to him there was alot of orders made for New York areas and Europe.. Uses Antler on the limb tips, all kids of woods and laminates, actually, to much to list of what he can do to the bow model you choose.

I shoot a "Little Grizzly" and a "Kwik Styk" currently, have some other bows i just dont get around to shooting any more, Like Caribow, Robertson Stykbow, etc.

But havent been shooting much this year like i used to, been wrapped up on guns, and working alot. Thinking about dropping a deposit off to Jack to make me a bow that matches the new Grey Laminate stock i bought for a remington. He has about a 6 month wait currently

I will have to give him a visit. I looked at his website and liked the long bows that I saw. Not to found of his style of recurve, just a matter of opinion as far as looks go. What kind of arrow do you shoot with your traditional?

That's defined these days as "primitive".
however, I'm not fussy, as long as it is a "stik 'n'strinng"!!:D
I've got Brownings, bears, Danarcos, Ben Pearsons, and Kempfs, all sticks.

He actuially makes several different styles of limb for the recurves.
I use Port Orford cedar shafts, very fond of kelly Peterson's arrows.
the las tbunch I ordered were for a friend, and Jack made them.

So, you want to hear that using a DB blind is not traditional? Must be the brand name that concerns you...............'cause blind hunting is not new.

Count me as traditional. I don't need training wheels, and that's the only criteria there is.

Now that that's out of the way, people ought to know that every friday evening at the Calgary Archery Center is "trad night" all are welcome and you'll have a great time and be well received.
