The taxidermist called just before christmas and let me know the bison I was able to get last season by Zama is done. I posted a few other pics (hope they work!) to just try to get the size of these animals to a scale. The bases on this guy are 16 7/8 and 16 2/8 with 19 inch horns.

The hide is laying on a king sized bed and touches the floor on each side!!

As for the mount, I thought I would try a open mouth as after my 6th shot he just looked at me and did a bellow when I was about 15m away!!

I have not seen the mount in person yet (and won't for a couple of months) but from the photos he sent me I think it turned out well.

Hope everyone who is hunting them this year has a great time and makes a lot of memories.

That is a real cranker of a bull! The taxidermist did an outstanding job on that as well. makes me wish I had gone that route instead of just the european. Congrats all the way around!

Congradualtions: Do you know how much it weighed? I was lucky enough to get drawn the 1st year and got a big bull also. The biologist, Lyle Fullerton estimated mine at 2600 lbs and measured the horns to be 22" long x 19" bases, scoring it in the 130" range? Never worked so hard in my life!!! But neither have I had so much fun.

Here is a field photo of the bison after the reinforcements arrived to help get him out of the bush. Didn't notice the branch right in front of his head but maybe some photoshop can help me get that out of the picture.

Congrats on the bison, and a cool mount.
What gun were you using?

Was shooting a .338wm with 225gr bullets. I found him in a bed and shot 4 times before he got up and then fed 4 more one at a time until I only had 1 left in my pocket. Was told to keep shooting if he is moving so did it until I had one left. I added a photo of 4 of the recovered bullets. His lungs were like swiss cheese but it still took 5-8 minutes after all the shooting for him to stop breathing.

Taxidermist found an infected area with a .22 bullet just under the hide in the neck so I will be able to get that as a momento as well.
