Well after 300kms of scouting the field we are familiar with we came up with a group of 4 bulls. 2 were crankers and we played cat and mouse with them this am for about 45 mins in the -30 weather. We kept trying to get the one big bull to present a shot but he seemed to always be turning or being blocked. This was super frustrating at 55 yards!. Finally they had enough and broke out on a dead run and started heading for some heavy muskeg where we thought they would hang up and not come out of. So a quick decision was made and we opted to give the 300 a work out at 412yrds. They were still moving and we lost the big guy and tipped over a 6.5 year old bull. After this the big boys came back and stood guard. We called a young hunter we ran into the night before, and walked him within 50 yards of a possible booner. He put his old 30-06 to work and we watched him smile for 7 hours as we field dressed them. The biologist said he has been up for 2 weeks and has only seen a handful. Its tough coming home after how hungry we were for a bow kill with a rifle kill! Pics and a better write up to come.......

55 yds from a free range bison with bow? I'm so jealous. Not many people have a story where a rifle killed bison is the anti climax. Good for you sir.

Congrats NBFK.....nice to have some decent temps to hunt them big critters. How was the snow conditions? My main concern has always been, after hearing others hunting experiences, in dealing with the very cold temps and very deep snow and having to butcher a monsterous animal before it freezes up...or you do:sHa_shakeshout: which ever would come first.

Congrats again......Marco
