I got my first gundog, a Setter, in 1973. Since then I've many others... I currently have 3 Chessies and 4 Springers. It's interesting to see how they learn to deal with barbwire.. In this country it seems like all we do is cross fences... I'm sure it's no different in Alberta. Some of my dogs to over them, so go through them, and some go under them. I don't encourage any particular method.... I just let the dogs figure out what works best for them. Any injuries I've had from barbwire over the years has been from dogs going through the fences.. It seems like going under them is the best way to deal with them, but I've not figured out a way to teach a dog to go under them.

I was doing some training yesterday and snapped these photos... The first is Turk, my male Chessie. Turk could jump the Statue of Liberty I think.... He goes over everything.. Dolly, one of my Springers, usually goes through them but as often as not she'll go over them also.... Go figure..

Great pics. My GSP figures the best way for her is to just run through them. New fences with tight wires tend to leave some great cuts along her back. Soon her whole back will just be a big sheet of scar tissue. I guess it doesn't hurt bad enough as she hasn't slowed down any yet.
Hopefully the warm winter will let your bird population rebound.

As a dog lover the top picture should be submitted to a magazine that is an amazing photo! Well done.
