With our recent warming/freezing cycles, I have noticed that the ice on lakes in our areas actually has 'pockets' in them. Small insulating bubbles between the layers that will collapse through to the water with enough weight on them..

Be careful out there

On the news this morning they said they are in hospital still recovering. People are way to eager to hit the ice with vechiles this year, sure we are going to see a lot more of this

Where did they go through??? I'm guessing near the shore somewhere where warm runoff melted the ice... Video or more details would be nice

I'm surprised there isn't more of that out there. I was fishing yesterday and there is about 10 - 11 inches of ice BUT the first 4 inches of that is packed snow and melted water. Lots of guys driving heavy diesels out there, its just a matter of time before someone drops one through.

Did anyone see the pictures of the towns tractor they dropped through a couple of weeks ago?

Yeah the ice definitely seems to be pretty sketchy this year. Perhaps there could also be more springs this year and they could be stronger too because of the rainy summer and spring we had here in Central AB.
