Got My Cow

Well after 2 weeks of hunting as much as i had time for, i took a cow elk yesturday morning. I'v been hunting hard and not having any luck. Lots of walking and lots of elk, all of them running in the oposite direction. This warm weather has had them walking most o the day and not bedding down so stalking them in thick cover was proving a challenge. So I got up early yesturday morning and headed out. When i got to where i figured they'd been feeding at night i actually spotted a herd of aprox 20 cows leaving a meadow and heading to the bush. so i ran to where thought theyd cross. Sure enough 20 minutes after legal light they came into sight. i brought the 300 up, rested her on a tree and brought this cow into my scope. took a deep breath and pulled the trigger. she bucked hard and ran. I felt good about my shot so i gave her 15 mins and went to where i had shot her. there was no blood. so i followed what i thoguht was her trail and 40 yards from where id shot her she was piled up. i know its "only a cow" but after 4 years of hunting elk with no success im happy as can be and cant wait to have some tenderloin for dinner tonight.

Way to go and congrats!
Harvesting any elk is a lot of fun IMO. You put in a bunch of time and were rewarded.
Elk hunting to me is second only to sheep hunting.
