I do check ama road reports. But you can't really tell until you get out there. Exspecially the gravel roads close to there!

How are the roads around Spruce Grove?

The Lake is in the country, away from high traffic. We've had some plus temperature weather causing snow to melt and turn to water. Then it freezes and becomes ice.

The roads are going to be icy. Slow down and take your time and you'll arive safe. Once you get there remember to turn your lights off so you don't drain your battery and not be able to start your car when your the last one to leave the lake

You ask for help, willow gives you a pretty nice response and you reply like that? I'd expect a reply like that to my rhetorical question.

Lets start from the beginning shall we? You live in Spruce Grove, you should have a general idea what the highway conditions are like. Now remember that its small roads leading to Nakamun, so take what you know the roads are like now, sprinkle a bit of caution, add a pinch of slow down, give it 60 minutes and you're there.

Ask a stupid question, get a stupider answer.

You'll need tire chains to get going, preferably a 4 wheel drive. Once you get going try not to use your brakes and just coast gradually to a stop......

*EDIT* I just read the rest of the thread and I realized that you are asking about GETTING to the lake as opposed to driving on it.........the roads to the lake are much worse than driving on it. :)

Thunder you live less then an hour away, just check ama road conditions, the local Carvel radar and weather reports, check Google maps as well for the spot you would like to fish and how to get to that spot

Back to the original question... the temperature in Stony Plain on Wednesday hit 11 degrees C and has stayed above freezing for at least 24 hours. So if freezing rain on Tuesday night made the roads nasty, they should all be good right now.

On bare roads that would sound good but the back roads weren't clear so the rain that we got sat on top of the compacted snow and ice to form another layer. Believe me, the back roads are very slippery.
