Where is pickeral point? I have fished on the very north east side where you can get on the lake there but I don't know any other parts of the lake at all. There is a marina or a trailer park on the west side of where I come on. Any help would be great. Are there any maps at all of this lake that a guy could download?

I think pickeral point is the first major point north of brownlows landing which is on the south-west side of gull lake

just wondering, does anyone know why the burbot population is so high at gull lake

all the other lakes i go to have some but not as many

biggest burbot ive caught was a 9 pounder at wabamun this year. it was very fat

I'm not really sure why Gull has so many, and big burbot, but it's awesome. Yes you are right about pickerel point it is the first major point north of brownlows.

What depth should i fish for burbot at pickeral point?

also i use a smelt. Is that the right bait

TundraBuck

Yep smelts will work just fine, you will catch pike with them too. Any depth, just look at where the other guys are fishing. I usually use tipups for pike and then jig for burbot, it all depends on the weather and how many are fishing. Good luck.

I got to go out again today and I caught around 8 burbot and I kept one that was 7.2 lbs. My little brother got 2 4/5 pound burbs and a 28" 4.5pound pike. My dad ended up catching 3 or 4 burbs as well. Heres the pics..

ive caught a bunch of burbot but im not familliar with what to do with them

TundraBuck

Yes I do sometimes, it just depends. And it's just like every other kind of fish, you can catch 0 or 100 in a day, just depends on a lot of things. Everytime we go to gull we get at least a couple.

What do you use i've always wanted to catch a burb

TundraBuck

Jigs, any type of baitfish. Anything you catch pike with you can catch burbot with.

IF you want to catch a Burbot... the best time will be within the next 3 weeks. Find shallow gravel areas. They will be moving in to spawn. And when you find one, you will find alot. Jigs tipped with minnow bounced off the bottom, like they are feeding on the eggs, work awesome.... The spot we usually go, we will usually catch in excess of 100 each once the spawn is underway. Another good thing to try once you get bored is try for whitefish, the Whites will come in looking for eggs... so use something like a small five of diamonds and bounce it off the bottom.

And once the whites start coming in, you know the pike will soon follow.... Dropped herring on tip ups just off the shallows inabout 6 -10' of water, about 2' - 4' off the bottom.

Well, this usually works for us. So, try it if you dare, and maybe things will workout for ya.
