I'm headed out to PCR this weekend during the day and am going to bring some smelts but I'm curious about the smelts. I've always had terrible luck with them but I buy those pickled ones at Canadian tire. Where do you guys get them at? Grocery stores? Just curious because I've lost faith in those CT ones. Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)

much better than the 8 to 14 millimeters that seems to be the new trend:bad_boys_20: I just stocked up on herring, 2 sizes, finally got some in town but they are already almost cleaned out. going to tease me some hogs with them this weekend!:sHa_shakeshout:

out of curiosity...WHY do you have a "bait supplier"? do you go through that many maggots, smelts, and worms?

If you go to Hong King International Supermarket on 17th Ave SE in Calgary you can get them for dirt cheap. I buy 1 lb bags of them for $3.

As originally suggested by Toirtis,

There is a seafood market in the strip mall at 29th st and 16th ave NW in Calgary.

Great selection and prices for slightly larger baits. Sardines, herring, mackerals, milk fish, and others, ranging from 3 or 4" to 12" ++.

Burbs like'm, and so do other fishes.

Awesome deli a couple doors down too.

For 1 its way cheaper buying bulk and its nice having bait on demmand instead of having to hope the stores arent sold out

The main lakes I fish usually have a little gas station or 2 along the way, so a guy just has to time it right to be there when they open. Rarely are they out as they go through so much they know to keep things stocked up. If I want big pike bait, I know of a few lakes that you can catch a huge amount of suckers on, so it makes for a great day of fishing on its own, and if you bring a few kids along, they can have a blast too...:D

Well I was very lucky , In the amount I fished I was given the supplyer that supplys The fishing hole , and I now get my bait from them . In summer I go threw a flat of 500 worms a month . I go threw 2 or 3 a summer . Before you go there you have to be a guide , tournament fisher , or store before you can buy wholesale from them .

I can get leaches year round but I still have them from last year and kept them in the fridge . Aswell as some nice looking smelts from 3-5 inches to -8 , 9 10 inch range .

do you know what 500 Dewworms looks like ?
