View Full Version : Grande Prairie & Area Coyote Derby - Feb 11th
01-27-2012, 08:05 PM
It's official, Doorguy and I are organizing a one-day coyote derby for the Grande Prairie area. If things work out maybe it will become an annual event to break up the winter doldrums, who knows.
Big Timber and Prime Time have both volunteered to help out with registration and have generously donated some great merchandise for prizes.
Entry into the derby will be $25 a person with team size limited to 2 people. Cash prizes for the top three teams awarded that evening.
Registration will take place February 10th at three locations - between 2PM and 5PM at PRT in Beaverlodge, at Big Timber in Grande Prairie between 2PM and 8PM, or at Prime Time (times yet to be determined).
Mandatory check-in will be at PRT or Big Timber between noon and 1PM, those registrants not checking in will take automatic 2 dog deduction.
After 6:30PM, we will meet at PRT in Beaverlodge for chili and a bun, prizes and a little chin-waggin'
Drop me a PM if you have any questions and/or if you plan to participate (just so we can get an idea of numbers)

Forgot to mention that one of the prizes to give away at the derby wrap-up is an e-caller!

Looks like this is shaping up to be a great time for a first time event, we have 8 confirmed teams for this event so far and still looking for more, keep spreading the word around, even been talking to land owners around the area and they are excited and willing to have people looking to take some yotes off their properties.

Here is the official poster for the Grande Prairie Coyote Derby. Please send PM to either Doorguy or elkamaholic to let us know if you plan on participating in the event, this way we can have an idea of how many entrants there might be for the event.

So everyone knows, we've found a way around the noon-hour check-in. There will NOT be a mandatory check-in at noon-hour. That should help a few teams out who already expressed that the travel time would be prohibitive.
Teams will still have to register the night before and be at Beaverlodge between 6:30 and 7PM (no later than 7PM, no exceptions) for final check-in and derby wrap-up.
The rules and scoring system will be outlined in a hand-out given at registration.

Just a friendly reminder that the derby is this weekend with registration happening Friday night. See above posts or derby poster for registration locations. Happy shooting and see you at the wrap-up Saturday night.

Sounds like we are going to have quite a good turnout so the competition should be fierce. Quite a few door prizes to give away Saturday night like a riflescope and that e-caller. Should be a fun evening at the wrap-up...looking forward to it!
We'll post some photos up here of the harvest when all is said and done...let's see if we can beat the 89 coyote tally the fur-buster derby wound up with this year!

Speaking with some of the entrants they figure on easy 10 plus dogs per team. Let's hope so.

Any updates on how the 'yote derby is progressing?
Good luck to all contestants!

Even though the full moon last night and the crunchy conditions made for some tough hunting, everyone had a great time...in fact, some wanted to do it again tomorrow!
We had seventeen teams participate, sixteen dogs were checked in. Next year we'll plan it with lunar phase in mind and start advertising earlier but yes, it will definitely be an annual event...and the Peace Country's "dirty-dawg predator derby" is born!
Will post some photos tomorrow...
