Some nice pike this Morning

Myself and my kid caught a couple nice pike this morning. Mine was 17lb10oz but his was 18lb6oz so I had to cough up 5 bucks to him. grrrrrr

Well todays fish didnt count for anything. Need to catch those big mamas in a couple weeks so I can make some dough and justify to my wife all the time I have spent out fishing!!

and YES it was an awesome day@! Was prepared for all this wind that the weather network was calling for and it turned out to be perfect out there!

yah it was very nice, I was all ready to use 8 anchors and it didnt blow harder than a 90 year old man at the breathalizer!!! hoping for the same in the morning, its supposed to be 65 Km in the morning and most of the day. may be anchoring down the chair and no tent again. I love it when they lie!

We were in brown durango, kinda parked out in the middle of no mans land in the bay. yea, I was all ready for a gale too and it never happened. Have you fished the newell derby before Wayne? Are you allowed to go out on the ice before the 7am start time to get set up?

Yea, trying to figure out where to go for the derby they have in a few weeks if there will be enough ice left by then to run it.

thats why Ive been sticking to the small ones for now, I dont want to have to keep a 35 pounder in my bathtub for 3 weeks :bad_boys_20:
entry says "fishing will be allowed from 7 am", I plan on being set up before then, just cant drop a line in until 7

this will be my first time at Newell and only my third derby, never saw a fish at the other two so you are likely ok :) I did see you guys, didnt hear any whoops and hollers so you much celebrate pretty quietly :sHa_shakeshout:

Yup, kept her pretty quiet. As you can see from the one pic, had my son hold her close to his body so nooooobody could see her. then snuck her back in the water hopin she eats another pike about 10 lbs before the derby so I can catch her again!
Nawww, actually, we catch 18 lbs allllll the time, so no big thang. LOL. (Think I have only caught a pike that big once before in my life!)

Thanks Speckle, it was about the best two pike I can recall catching, and both in the same day. Shrug...guess ya never know what your gonna pull up through that hole.
