I read the forecast, calling for crazy wind and warm temps, so I figured I wouldnt need a tent anyhoo, so off I went. met up with anthony5 and we commenced to hurricane fishing. Rule number one, EVERYTHING must be nailed to the ice. Rule number 2, CLEATS must be worn at ALL times. I decided to check out the depth all across the lake, so I drilled holes in a line from one shore to the other, if I hadnt been wearing cleats I swear I would have had to crawl back on my hands and knees, the wind was awesome strong. Did a trolling run across the lake and back again, didnt work too well, I couldnt keep the boat..er..boots in a straight line with the wind. did manage to hook a feisty 8 pound plus pike on a jig out in 20 feet of water, put up an great scrap. Tried running the tip up along the line, did 3 pike in 3 holes, nothing to write home about but fun anyways. Finally the walleye started to cooperate. Managed 5 fatties myself and not sure how many my companion got through the ice. Watched the nice round holes turn into some crazy shapes, the snow eater was doing a real job on the ice. inches of water on top as the ice and snow layer melted away, the wind eventually evaporated a lot of it, but still areas with 2 inches when we left. crazy how fast the hole shapes changed, Im glad I dont drive on in that area for sure. got some exercise chasing everything that got loose, gloves, hats, flashlights, chair, pretty much anything and everything. Even the rodholders and rods were going for a ride today. one of the holes turned into a whirlpool, water swirling and getting sucked under the ice, and a white tornado 2 or 3 feet long under the ice forming. tried dunking some bait down there but no takers.

note the melted shape of the holes, 9 inch holes ended up too big to place a tip up across!
